50th Anniversary of the Induction of the First Honorary Citizen!
Here is the program for the Sunday, October 5, 2025 edition.
Nearly 500 people attended the 2025 event, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the induction of the first Honorary Citizen: Edgar FAURE (1908–1988). He supported the Republic of Saugeais, alongside its President, Gabrielle POURCHET, helping to promote the region and its identity.
The day began with a religious service at Montbenoît Abbey and a tribute at the War Memorial. It then continued with a meal and the induction ceremony.
Marcel POCHARD, a former colleague of Edgar FAURE, described FAURE’s political commitment through numerous anecdotes that captured the audience’s attention.
Five individuals were named Honorary Citizens: Nicolas GARRO (Gendarmerie Commander), Michel ONIMUS (volunteer surgeon), Lisa MOTA (Secretary General of the Chamber of Trades), Jean-François MAILLOT (volunteer with the Saint-Vincent charity in Champlitte), and Lilian RENAUD (singer-songwriter). Marcel POCHARD (retired senior civil servant) was named Ambassador.
Lilian RENAUD, who was approached by members of the public throughout the day, responded to everyone with kindness and attention. Her youth, enthusiasm, and approachability—especially as her latest album (Le Champ des possibles) was being released—added a wonderful touch to this Honorary Citizens’ Day
The warm and unique atmosphere of the République du Saugeais left a lasting impression on everyone there!
See you there: Sunday, October 4, 2026!
